The Biblical Moses was Called by Yahweh Just Like Any One Of Us Now

Image
Today has been one of those days that got me writing down my thoughts here in this blog, which I have not done so in a while. I accompanied 1 of my clients to church at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration by 30th and 5th Avenue in Manhattan,  New York City. It was a common Sunday, a week before it's spring, but hearing the mass I was struck by the message of Fr John David's homily, which he delivered extemporaneously in his usual style. He cited the story of Moses, who was visited by Yahweh in Mt Horeb and appeared as a burning bush while Moses waz tending to his father in law's sheep. In that encounter, he was called to a purpose that Yahweh crafted, and which to primarily lead the Israelites out of Egypt,  the leaders of whose country then were maltreating horribly the numerous descendants of Joseph and his brothers. Of course, it's up to us if we like to take these stories literally. Or according to our context. And even our personal r

Even Madea, Tyler Perry's Character, Is Moving On

https://nyti.ms/2EDYkI7 Try reading the link above, which I have gathered from The New York Times. As with most events in our respective lives, we all go through moving on episodes. They can come quick, or slow, depending on the life you have. You will find the necessarily tools that can be used to help you do your own moving on act. In my case, I have been blogging on it since so many years ago. I would stop posting from time to time, and yet again, I get reminders from living my life. I keep being grateful, and learn to become better aware of these moving on moments in my life. SHAMELESS PLUGS: Thank you for checking this posting out. Being in a capitalist country, I will take this opportunity, too, to share my stakes in various business engagements I currently find my self in. You may check these stakes I have here in whatever manner available to you (given changes in procedures we have from time to time), copy and paste them on your browser (if that works for you), and be more

Even Plants Grow and Expand In Their Self-Contained Environment

Image
Above: My plantings as of August 22, 2016 Below: When They Were Planted July 11, 2016 After I've done my yoga practice and made brunch for myself earlier, I couldn't help but have some quick ruminations today.  I also made close observations on those plantings I have had since mid July this year. My friend Ed B gave me those stems from the cuttings he made from an older plant that he said originally came from a friend who brought them from Florida. Let me figure out that statement more closely.  I'm amazed at these simple but awesome yet generally ignored exhibitions of growth events happening in nature. I suppose it follows that we human beings have that in ourselves, that capacity to grow and expand even within just by ourselves. It continues even after we've died --- I have seen that from my deceased Father who in his casket continued to grow his mustache, somewhat.  I'm grateful for these capacities the whole universe has provided each on

Getting My Share of Flak on Daily Banter's "Michelle Obama Gives Zero F*cks About What the Saudis Wanted Her To Wear"

On What Michelle Obama Wore When She Came Along With Barack Obama in Saudi Arabia I remarked "awesome!" With a sharing of a posting that received at least 10 likes and 2 shares from my Facebook network, I received an admonition from someone who believes otherwise that what Michelle Obama was not harmful..... Someone wrote down in my Facebook timeline "Why it would be awesome! ! Does respecting other people culture become a sin or f*ck a hit to them !! Ur not belongs to this region of the world .. as we never criticised ur damin open style you are living which against the sole of real Christinty .. don't share such stupid articles which only add hates between people . Forgiving All Those Money Debts People Have Got From Me

I was prompted to write down this forgiving-off all the debts people have incurred from me because one of them happened to be my neighbors. It's been an annoying experience, as if he just wants to get something over me just probably because he thinks I'm doing better than he is. He's Hispanic and he lives across in front of our house. He attempted to borrow some cash from my landlord but instead he got a loud hearing from him. And my landlord admonished him to pay what he owed me. I have since then decided to charge the experience to the winds of this whole wide universe we all live in and breathe in.  For all I know, I'll get more money in return for all these unpaid debts. And I started recalling all others who have borrowed money from me but they have yet to pay me as they promised. Some of them actually passed on, including my late Father who I recall, as I write this, borrowed money from me many, many times. I tend to forget details of those who borrowed money fr

Moving On From The Troubles of Losing My iPod Touch in the S78 Bus in Staten Island

I just want to rid myself of the ill feelings I've got over the loss of my iPod Touch with serial number CCQG7M0MDCP9, which I lost (or somebody must have stolen it from my jacket's side pocket) inside the S78 Bus in Staten Island. I've taken steps to check the status using Apple.com's me.com  and another application. I've already filed online a form with the MTA . I'm just missing my music, my books, my pictures, and those notes I've written down as entries for books I've been thinking of writing. Well, I may just have to push the start button again. Or I may just have to buy an iPad soon. I can only pray and hope I'll get back that iPod or even just the notes, which I still have to work on continuously for my writing projects.  Peace!

Moving On By Having A New Roommate

Note: This blog has been deleted unknowingly when I changed the 'style' that I use here (after getting enticed by blogger.com with fresh looking styles and so I decided to switch styles). I wonder what readers have been looking into when they click into the contents of this posting; it's, probably, the title that intrigues them or drives them to check what's behind the posting (and they would find out that it's an empty post). I don't have a draft of that original blog posting in my files; I write directly on this page. But as far as I could recall, I wrote about a new roommate who moved into the room that became vacant because the former roommate passed on. The new roommate knows that the former occupant of his room now passed on; the room has completely been cleaned, with new paint given to its walls, with new carpeting installed, among other things we did to practically overhaul the room. The experience of having a new roommate provided another great opport

Cooking Beef Stew, Italian-American Style, With Dumplings

Image
We feel grateful we have lazy Sundays every once in a while. We work on what we can handle for the day, and we look forward to days when can do some unhurried, honest to goodness homestyle cooking. My roommates, including our landlord, and myself decided we’d like to have a stew for today. We gathered what we have got in the kitchen, and started making the stew. Here’s how I figured how the recipe was for what we have eventually come up for our main dish for the day: 2lbs beef cubes, cut into bite sizes 1 and ½ cups of olive oil ½ lbs all purpose flour 3 large size white onions (sweet variety), cut & diced 4 long stems of celery, cut & diced 2 lbs of peeled carrots, cut into bite sizes 10 medium sized potatoes, peeled, cut into bite sizes 1 can of peeled tomato with basil (1 lb) Parsly flakes 15 beef bouillons 1 & ½ cups pancake & baking mix to make dumplings 1 cup of milk 1 can of mixed greenpeas A very big cooking pot Dump the beef cubes in flour, making sure they’re

A Few Dubious Job Opportunities I Received from Job Postings Online: Beware!

Image
Lately, I've been getting some strange replies from people I don't really know. They were replying to emails which they thought I sent them, asking them to apply for vacancies in a fictitious company that I'm supposed to represent. Despite the malicious intent, I hope something good happens from all these......Help! I copy-pasted below the text of the emails which was sent to a number of people. I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused anyone out there. I'm a real person, and you can just reply to this posting if you want to know more about these malicious emails where my email addresses have been used. I've also received some job offers from several companies that are dubious. I copy pasted one of them here. I'll be updating this email as soon as I receive letters similar to this. Thank you for taking time to read this! from Sam Judge <"wolrdjob@yahoo.com"> to dyerohmeb@gmail.com date Sun, Aug 23, 2009 at 7:50 PM subject Re: per

Moving, and Moving Again :D (A New York City Common Experience)

Image
I've just completed my moving from my former space up in Inwood to Chinatown , both in Manhattan, or a distance involving over 200 blocks. I've observed myself that I'd like moving bit by bit, rather than doing it all at the same time. All I needed to do is to decide if I'm moving finally, which maybe due to some circumstances beyond my control. My latest moving was due to the owner's decision to have my former place renovated, and get sold eventually. I would have wanted to buy it for myself, but I think there will be better opportunities to come, in time. It's actually an ideal place for starter families, as it's spacious and in an area where you'd see a lot of families who are just starting to build their families, and it's still in Manhattan, though it's way up there in the so-called " upstate Manhattan " that most maps exclude as it's not touristy enough. It's a wonderful place to live in, even though some neighbors c

Copying & Pasting an Innocent-looking Forwarded Email That Attempts to Share First Hand Tips on "Choosing Well" to Get a Life Partner!!! Whew!!!

Hope everyone who finds time to read this forwarded message, will also find in his / her heart the courage to actually do the hard work needed to come up with a good choice for a life partner! Note: Of course, I would not check the veracity of the facts behind the story, i.e. if this is just one of the mild concoctions of one frustrated writer (or more) out in the world wide web. But please feel free to share, anyway!!! If not, do as you please. Happy searching for a life partner! Eight Dream Symbols That Point to Stress - Page 3

Image
Link PLEASE READ LINK Oh, Lord, I just love having dreams in my sleep, or else, I am surely have not been able to sleep well at all. I've known from my Psychology undergraduate studies, that when one is dreaming, one is having "rapid eye movement" (REM) or the state wherein dreams happen. Of course, I'd love to have the most pleasant dreams! I recall having dreamt of seeing myself beheaded, with me seeing actually where my head drops and rolls....the details are just so real...such that I'd still remember this dream even up to now when I've had this dream when I was still in elementary school. And I've had regular dreams of just flying, flying so freely, and letting myself falling from the very top of tall buildings, and getting myself dropping for a few floors, and eventually, I'd be getting the hang of it, and I'd get my gears moving, and I'd be swooping up, up and away.....flying, flying...flying like a giant wild bird!!! That sounds

An Americano speaking Tagalog

I just want to give credit to the wife for patiently teaching her American husband to learn to  speak Tagalog.  And she is a Visayan at that!  Very good work, indeed!  It also shows volumes about the kind of loving this couple must have for each other. I'm always surprised when I hear some Filipinos I meet here who'd apologize to me when they can't speak really good Tagalog to me.  I don't take it really as a slight (even if they don't know I do Tagalog tutorials here in NYC).   Now, it's always easier for people to relate better with their loved ones if they speak a common language.  There are practical considerations for this.  It makes everyday life lighter and easier to pursue;  so much is lost in translation which can be frustrating for someone who likes to express something in a language that he/she knows best. But I'm just sure the wife is just like most Filipinos who are tri-linguals, i.e. they speak at least 3 languages including Tagalog (on which &

American Adobo

I'm reminded by a hasty remark by a friend of a friend whose family have lived here in the US for the past 25 years.  She got so surprised at the idea of me teaching Tagalog on tutorial basis. She didn't ask about other details, but from the look of her eyes, she found the idea so disconcerting.  She's also from the Philippines, and their generation still speak the kind of Tagalog that's deep and respectful in tone (you'd know they speak their Tagalog in that particular manner by their age, certainly....noted for being deferential, kinda slow, & reserved); unlike the Tagalog that I've always known to be "Taglish (Tagalog & English combined or some say "conyotic"---don't know how to put the right N, if you know what I mean)," clipped and fast, without the "ho, po, opo, oho," & in a style that's notably as being from Manila as described once by a dear Visayan friend who remarked that Tagalogs speak Tagalog with a d

Coke Commercial - Philippines

I remember this ad to be last Coke ad I've seen on local Philippine television prior to my leaving for the US in the start of 2nd quarter of 2006. It has that certain quaint appeal that's not difficult to miss. Of course, it's a TV commercial, and an apparently, very effective marketing material at that, without trying too hard, but a bit sweaty pie-ish in delivery (sigh! what can I say about good looking people who are smiling a lot, enthusiastically, and with lovely looking eyes from those joining the crowd, and the smooth flow of moments in this brief ad!)...I could be not among its targeted audience, but I nevertheless can sense its alluring quality. I also know from my knowledge about Manila that this ad was shot somewhere in Binondo, or Sta Cruz.  Being a Tagalog tutor in a country other than the Philippines, I can see some other special things about the use of Tagalog in the ad. And in this analysis-of-a-response, I understood something in Tagalog, and I'm desc

What I Saw at the "New York Botanical Garden"

Image
These photos are a mixed variety of those I took using my old Olympus digital camera and my Sony Ericsson celfone camera. You'd see the yawning differences in quality (color, light, ambient features), but I still feel confident on the composition of the images I have chosen and posted here, and to convey the great images one can behold, and very much worthy of sharing to others who have yet to be at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. Having not much memory space in my camera, I settled with what I could just shoot and capture. My friend just went on shooting photos of what has caught her eye on what's beautiful, which quality abounds in this garden. As to the photos here, I'm proud to have captured what's basically, and naturally beautiful, without going out of my way to improve, repair, or change anything on the outcomes. It was sweltering hot when my friend and I visited the park over a week ago. I felt like I was back in the Philippines, but I try to
