Why Diversity Will Always Be an Asset
Diversity will always be an asset to any organization, as long as it's recognized as such. If you're a businessperson willing to take risks, one area where you can focus your efforts on is to hire from a diverse pool of people, as long as you personally like them. It's always a smart move to recruit people who are different from you, and who will complement your own strengths and weaknesses - you simply can't do everything. Of course, this is difficult to do, as your ego will always distract you from what the real and critical issues are when you do recruitment. And it's more of a big challenge is you're a control freak.

And yet at the end of the day, you'll need valuable inputs and different perspective from others in your team, in order to compete on a sustained basis. "Diversity in recruitment" answers this from the start, even if you're someone who grew up in a society that prides itself for being "homogenous" and who has a disdain towards outsiders. Observe how business locations all over the world have taken lead because they're known to be highly "diverse: - they include New York City, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Sao Paolo, Mexico, London, San Francisco, Dubai ---what makes these places special and outstanding as major business locations is, among others, they're being "diverse." And you must have also noted about the world's leading companies? What sets them apart from competition is their having "diverse make up of employment." Well, too much jargon here - diversity also applies in other things business, including "diversified products and services" (that's going too far for this article, now), which is another strategy for organizations to take lead.
And still, you'll have to continue training your staff when you hire them. Your efforts to lead will pay off eventually if you work as well in providing training on diversity (as part of the over-all Human Resource strategy) - this will prepare everyone in your organization, most especially yourself. Ponder on this more, and try doing it, according to your style. And if you're delving more about it, here's an article I wrote on it: Why businesses implement diversity training
