Moving On: Streit’s Matzo Factory in Manhattan's LES Is Moving On

Image
Read the article on TNYT here. Even businesses, which are owned and managed by people, have moving on experiences. Certain changes can't be helped, if you get to see how changes have continuously enveloped this 'much expensive' section of Manhattan. In this particular case, I see it's technology that has brought about the actual moving on event to unfold and take place. And so many people's lives would be affected as this moving on process continues to take place. Somewhat dreaded (it seems to me) by some, we can all learn to be prepared to face our respective moving on experiences. The process is not exclusive to human beings, as we all get to become more familiar with 'Moving On' while we go about doing and pursuing our respective lives. It's not something I invented - I just happened to experience it so strongly many years ago and have decided to face it and highlight it in my writing works. Don't take it against yourself if you're very

Moving, and Moving Again :D (A New York City Common Experience)

Image
I've just completed my moving from my former space up in Inwood to Chinatown , both in Manhattan, or a distance involving over 200 blocks. I've observed myself that I'd like moving bit by bit, rather than doing it all at the same time. All I needed to do is to decide if I'm moving finally, which maybe due to some circumstances beyond my control. My latest moving was due to the owner's decision to have my former place renovated, and get sold eventually. I would have wanted to buy it for myself, but I think there will be better opportunities to come, in time. It's actually an ideal place for starter families, as it's spacious and in an area where you'd see a lot of families who are just starting to build their families, and it's still in Manhattan, though it's way up there in the so-called " upstate Manhattan " that most maps exclude as it's not touristy enough. It's a wonderful place to live in, even though some neighbors c

NYC Halloween Parade 2008

Very grateful to have been able to work again on this video that made use of the salvaged pictures I took during 2008 NYC Halloween Parade (visit the website of this 35-year old tradition?) . I chose from my friend, Yankeeboy's suggestions on which music to add to make the pictures, now turned into video, more livelier and interesting. He also told me that Screamin' Jay Hawkins would sing I PUT A SPELL ON YOU as he goes out of a coffin! This music certainly made the work more palatable LOL....and more fun to pour my time on.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Feast Day 2006 Our Lady of Perpetual Help Feast Day 2007 Our Lady of Perpetual Help Feast Day 2008 For 3 years now, at the request of a long time good friend, I've done volunteer work for the annual Feast Day of the Mother of Perpetual Help, one of the Blessed Virgin Mary's (BVM) favorite depictions by those faithful people, those of relatively less faith from what is observed on the outside, and those decidedly curious onlookers. Of course, I like doing these volunteer works every chance I've got; I've gained much from it personally more than I can imagine those who have received my help have gained from my volunteer works in the first place. I've done works doing floral designs (where I always get to learn more about actual floral design techniques from among the best floral designers in NYC), as well as in installing and dismantling all the decorations for the celebrations, plus the whole process of providing a late dinner for thos

2 pigs!

Tattooed, authentic real pigs, stuffed, preserved,& on display in a chelsea art gallery These are two (2) stuffed, well preserved pigs (or I must have been kidded by my own eyes!!) on display at the Max Lang gallery in Chelsea. I was doing my usual Wednesday evening elderly companion volunteer work for a 92-year old man, when we happened to pass by the front of this gallery. We were on our way to a walk for a few blocks, as the weather was great yesterday, even at past 8pm. I was caught surprised on seeing these 2 pigs, and was amazed to realize they're real pigs that have been preserved by the artist. I'm actually having some doubts about the authenticity of these pigs being real, but I remember from my experiences years ago when I used to have a piggery business back in the Philippines, I remember how pigs' skin looked like (which skin can't be made artificially, or it would have cost that much to make!). Or, the artist must have done a real, great job of coming

Another waterfalls site in Central Park

Image
These two shots were made over a year using my sony ericcson celfone. If I remember it correctly, these falls are located somewhere in the upper north-western side of Central Park, & which some notice posted in the park says it's not actually man-made, or something like it's "natural" [this could be the "natural" waterfalls, or the other photo....can't recall now! :D ]. I remembered one site had cute turtles lying, swimming in the small space. I would have wanted to take shots at them, but my celfone camera didn't have the capacity for close-up shots. I thought these falls look pretty and fanciful to merit some interest to anyone interested in waterfalls. Close your eyes, and imagine the best waterfalls experience you've had ever in your life!

Award winning "Loboc Children's Choir" in Manhattan

Image
I watched this choir one very rainy & windy May 9th (2008) evening at the Church of St. Emeric in the ABC City of East Side, NYC. Mostly the audience were made up by Filipinos, from all ranks, as expected. I noticed a number of people who were not typically Philippine-looking. Of course, the organizers had to make sure all the important Philippine officials had to speak, even for a few minutes, just to make their presence felt. I was glad the Philippine Ambassador & Permanent Representative (Justice Hilario Davide, Jr) to the UN didn't talk that long, as he recognized the audience was actually there to watch this internationally awarded choir. There were a lot of interruptions from the emcee who tried to recognize the presence of anyone, just about anyone, who are among the "who's who" here in the Philippine community in the East Coast, who bravely ventured out to watch this choir that night. Despite the irritating insistence to come up with a show by

Getting Parttime Jobs; Sticking It Out Here in NYC

Thanks God, I'm able to look and apply for jobs, mainly through Craigslist in its NY site. I have been out of full time work for over a week now. Yesterday, I got to talk with another friend who's based in LA, California. He's been out of full time work along the banking industry for over a month now. He's got reasons why he's decided to give up his work, and get to doing some other things he'd preferred to work on. I figured I can learn from what he's undergone so far. He himself had notable managerial experience in banking, and recruiters are in disbelief why he'd give up the perks of being in a managerial position, and get to start again at the bottom in some other jobs which he thought he could do better. I've figured out that I'd like to have parttime jobs now. This has been the route that I've thought I can pursue even before I got full time jobs here in NYC. Thankfully, I got a response from an employer, and I'm working later today

NYC '06 halloween parade

Those two costumed guys showed up late, actually, when the parade was over. They looked like they wanted to join the just-ended parade....but everybody's going home by then!!! Their costumes look cool, and people noticed & asked them for a pose, which they gladly obliged!
