How Do You Translate "Nahanginan Ka Ba" In Other Languages?
Watch the above video (courtesy of Victor Velasco) first, and try to recall, if you've got one, perhaps among many kinds, of having been found yourself in a "whirlwind" of an experience. Or even the experience of having been sort of cleansed by the purifying feel of the wind. click on the title for more... Back in the Philippines, I've always had access to this kind of wind such that I can even remember up to now the very experience of being a-washed by the wind. I'd spend hours at the flat, concrete rooftop of our house, from where I could see the outlines of the mountains of Tagaytay. The wind that comes and visits varies, depending on the time of the day, as it's never the same. And come to think of it, you can't actually see the wind. It's just always there. You see the clouds moving, and you recognize there goes the wind. There's something very powerful, mesmerizing about the wind.
Well, I've always had this "nahanginan" experience in several phases in my life. I knew I was bathed in the wind, so to speak, hence I decided to spend over 8 years with my partner in our own small place back in Silang, Cavite, in the Philippines - considering that I was born and raised in Manila, 2-hour drive away from Silang. I'd never exchange those years for anything else. Then again, I got "winded" again when I came to NYC - the winds have kept me stuck here in the meantime, as if I'm working on a set of assignments. And I've even experienced the very spiritual presence of the "wind" of the Holy Spirit, during my first "Life in the Spirit Seminar," the main quality of which is its "utterly, all-knowing kind of peaceful" presence.
Can you translate "nahanginan" for me? It's a word that connotes becoming "foolish" or "crazy" because a lot of "air" has seeped into one's mind. Exposure to "wind" can indeed be life changing, to some. Just be aware, and recognize the experience. Remember, the great sailors of the past relied heavily on the strength of the wind. Magellan and his men could have not certainly circumnavigated the world had it not been for the strong presence of the wind.
