Getting Nude for a Fine Art Portrait Gig with a Dedicated Photographer from Craigslist!
To supplement my income from freelance part-time jobs, I'd be doing interesting gigs that I see posted on Craigslist. I tell you, looking into these gigs and jobs on Craigslist New York will give you a better understanding of how people's minds go about currently. I even think I get a better view on the window on how people go about their lives when I read those postings on Craigslist than reading a respectable broadsheet (as they're more up-to-date, just like Twitter or Facebook). One posting for a gig I responded to was about "fine art naked portraits" nearly 2 years ago.
I thought I can do a nude portrait gig, as I figured I won't be having this physical state of body I still got 20 years from now. The forces of gravity and demands of daily living will certainly take their toll, as my God-given body will give way to the slow process of nature's ravages, even if I really take good care of myself now. And I needed some dough just to make up for my living needs. I responded to the email.
The photographer, replied back soon (unlike most people who post looking for workers on Craigslist, and who I think take personal delight on people's indignities when they send in their resumes or applications responding to these "vacancies." Most don't even bother to respond, giving you all kinds of ideas whether these applications are actually read or disposed immediately). We soon made a schedule which had to be rescheduled at least twice because of some conflicts at the last minute. He provided me his contact number, and was forthright with his intentions and his current project. View his website here, and decide for yourself if you'd work with him----I recognized faces of celebrities whose names I could not instantly recall, including an actress who's with the "Sex in the City" fame, plus an actor who's among the leads in the "Lord of the Rings" film series.
The shoot itself was actually uneventful. The studio's somewhere in Union Square, in one of those old buildings with interesting facades surrounding the square that's peopled by all kinds of cultures anytime of the day. It was kinda cloudy that day, and the rain was threatening to fall anytime. Inside the studio, the photographer asked me to sign a document that I remember was more of a release and a claim for the copyright. But he promised to email me copies. He had an effective process of "establishing rapport" with his clients, including myself. Using a camera that looks very expensive, I had 4 shots of myself taken, naked in all my material glory! It was a personal delight! I felt clean and uninhibited! I felt good being photographed in my birthday suit! This posting's also a great reminder of my 43rd birthday this month, considering that I had those nude photos taken when I was still 41 years old. I had much shorter hair, and with a third less weight. Sharing the pictures here may just cause me infringement on a copyrighted material, I suppose. And I remember going home gleefully having been paid in check, for a work done in less than 30 minutes, but which material value I certainly can not fully account now.
