'"Hungry, But Not Starving!" (or What to Keep in Mind in Job Hunting During A Downturn Period!)

Image
In today's job market situation, you get to encounter a lot of ridiculous postings on Craigslist (and perhaps, other job sites as well). They make you think twice or do more pondering as to how these employers or prospective clients have sensed to figure out how to take advantage of people's desperation to get jobs...well, to tell you honestly, and from my previous experience doing HR work for nearly 20 years, you won't ever get a job because you are in a desperate situation. You get the job because you're the best fit, nothing more, nothing less. And here's more: the more you allow yourself to be taken advantaged of because you're in a desperate situation, the more you keep away from getting what you think you deserve. Of course, employers are almost always in search of those who are hungry, but they'd definitely won't deal with someone starving. Most employers are starving themselves, given the thin profit margins of most businesses nowadays (even th

Getting My Teeth Cleaned & Being Paid $$$ for It!!

I saw this recent posting on "Jobs" section of Craigslist, that reminded me of one paid gigs I've done nearly two years ago. This time based on the ad copied&pasted here, I couldn't qualify, as the ad excludes those who have had their teeth cleaned within the past 5 years. In my case, as usual, I responded to an ad for a gig posted by a Dentist, whose trying to get himself licensed to practice in New York. He's been a practising dentist for many years before. He had to do this through NYU's Dentistry School (I don't really know why, or maybe because the members of the licensing board uses NYU's facilities). My Dentist's Asian who's born and raised in California. He had his wife assisting him during the tedious process of getting his license here in New York. It's nice to see a couple working together in making a sustained go in their livelihood, I told to myself. I had to go back and forth at least 4 times at NYU's Dentistry Schoo

Getting Nude for a Fine Art Portrait Gig with a Dedicated Photographer from Craigslist!

To supplement my income from freelance part-time jobs, I'd be doing interesting gigs that I see posted on Craigslist. I tell you, looking into these gigs and jobs on Craigslist New York will give you a better understanding of how people's minds go about currently. I even think I get a better view on the window on how people go about their lives when I read those postings on Craigslist than reading a respectable broadsheet (as they're more up-to-date, just like Twitter or Facebook). One posting for a gig I responded to was about "fine art naked portraits" nearly 2 years ago. I thought I can do a nude portrait gig, as I figured I won't be having this physical state of body I still got 20 years from now. The forces of gravity and demands of daily living will certainly take their toll, as my God-given body will give way to the slow process of nature's ravages, even if I really take good care of myself now. And I needed some dough just to make up for my living
