Getting My Teeth Cleaned & Being Paid $$$ for It!!

I saw this recent posting on "Jobs" section of Craigslist, that reminded me of one paid gigs I've done nearly two years ago. This time based on the ad copied&pasted here, I couldn't qualify, as the ad excludes those who have had their teeth cleaned within the past 5 years.

In my case, as usual, I responded to an ad for a gig posted by a Dentist, whose trying to get himself licensed to practice in New York. He's been a practising dentist for many years before. He had to do this through NYU's Dentistry School (I don't really know why, or maybe because the members of the licensing board uses NYU's facilities). My Dentist's Asian who's born and raised in California. He had his wife assisting him during the tedious process of getting his license here in New York. It's nice to see a couple working together in making a sustained go in their livelihood, I told to myself.

I had to go back and forth at least 4 times at NYU's Dentistry School, and had to get my teeth x-rayed at least 6 times (I believe I have lost count of the correct number of times). But I just enjoyed it, thinking I'd get more benefits than I counted. Come the examination date, I showed up early. I got teeth x-rayed again. My Dentist, together with other Dentists trying to get their licenses, were looking anxious, but all of them kept their cool and were not flustered so as to soothe the nerves of their patients.

My Dentist asked me many times if I was scared; he even remarked how I have strongly brushed my teeth out of habit as the marks can be seen while he worked on me. I would have kept the conversation, but I was practically gagged. I feel proud I still have my teeth; it must be the effective way that my parents have brought me up caring for my teeth that I still have most of my set, except for 1 or 2 teeth now gone or still-salvageable attached to my gums. I felt odd being a guinea pig, again. My Dentist focused on a few of my teeth, as he poked on them, cleaned them, air-brushed them, machine-brushed them...and the Examiners and Proctors went after him to check on what he had done on my teeth. I gurgled and gurgled each time. The process lasted for nearly 2 hours. I noticed how everyone tried to be as professional as they could in their ways of dealing with each other. This "Dental" licensing process looks serious, as seen by myself sitting on the patient's chair. I was ready to laugh aloud, but I kept my thoughts to myself. I reminded myself I was being paid to do this.

By almost 1pm that Sunday, my gig was over. My Dentist handed me cash, and gave me an extra with a battery-operated, heavy duty toothbrush as a gift!
