Dostoevsky's "The Brothers Karamazov"

Image
The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky My rating: 5 of 5 stars I was halfway thru reading this book when I met a retired Russian chemist (who was suffering from lung cancer) in one of my gigs, and we discussed about our common interests in reading books. I was surprised to hear from her about Dostoevsky's books being not among her top choices for her reading fare (I saw books everywhere in her house, mostly non English ones), just like others in her personal network. She said, Dostoevsky writes in the ultimate dramatic way (almost histrionic, I thought to myself, and to which I agree to some extent), which is not completely Russian in character (and adds that Pushkin should be read by non Russian readers to get an idea of the best in Russian literature). But she added that Dostoevsky's reads better in the English translations of his books (as remarked by her daughter who's a bilingual, English & Russian writer). The conversation got me more interested in finis...

Life's Transitions Can be Painful, But Why Do We Have Always to Suffer Them?

I received two messages last week from friends who indicated how they've been missing me. I've been writing about "moving-on" themes in this blog - and it's not been always that easy. It's in fact one of the concerns of most people who have to move from one phase in life to another. And each one has something significant to say about it. No matter how much counseling or help you'll get on "moving-on," it's still going to be painful. Transitions involve changes, and we humans detest changes intrinsically - it's never fun and easy. Hence, we need company as we journey in life, at least to help lighten the load. And company can be had from people who have similar interests as yours, and preferably, who are in similar phase in life (that may switch any time soon). (click on the title for more...)

Travel, Local & Abroad, is An Excellent Surprising Tool in Your Efforts in Moving On

Image
I have discovered that traveling both here and abroad have helped me move on from one phase in my life to another. It has brought clarity to certain questions, and have expanded my views literally. Travel has highlighted the need to pay as much attention to my ever precious leisure time in as much as I pay so much hours doing work. I have found plenty of opportunities to enjoy my leisure time, which I need badly from spending so many hours being at work.  I have been making videos and sharing them in my YouTube account. I hope you do, too, or if not, you will eventually do so. We humans are not only created to do work, but also to engage in our well deserved leisure time, even if circumstances seem to play against us in our efforts. I even have come up a travel related playlist, currently at 179 videos, which list includes videos from other creators . Check them out and lemme know what you think. (Now, I am blogging this on this app on my phone and I wonder if this will...
